This role is working directly in our wildlife hospital. You will be working with a host of wildilfe including pigeons, hedgehogs, garden birds and more! Spring and Summer months are alot more full on as our hospital is filled with orphaned and young animals. If you want to get hands on with wildlife and don't mind getting messy then this is the role for you!
No previous experience necessary as you learn as you go.
Patience and understanding of wildlife is needed.
Must be able to drive as there is no public transport to the hospital
Must be over 16 years of age
Must be reliable
Minimum requirement is one morning a week (10:00am-1:00pm)
Duties include
Cleaning hospital cages and pens which house a variety of wild animals which often include hedgehogs & pigeons
Providing fresh food and water to the animals
keeping the hospital clean and tidy
Working in a calm manor so wild animals can recover in a quiet environment
General cleaning duties
Spring and summer months will include regular feeding of orphaned animals including nests of baby birds and mammals
Please be aware that this is a practical & hands-on role working with animals that are wary and unaccustomed to being around humans in a closed environment. You must be prepared to get occasionally dirty and suffer the odd peck every now & again. However working in our wildlife hospital can also one of the most rewarding experiences in the world.
"I love being with like minded people who have the same passion for wildlife that i do. I get so much out of volunteering, I would recommend it to anyone. Seeing wildlife up close is a privilege and to then see these animals being released is what it's all about.
Michelle Caisley, BWRC Volunteer.
